Queen

In 1974 Queen signed their first major recording deal with Emi.  The ultimate glam rockers quickly became the world’s favourite band. To date their enchanting combination of guitar strings and excessive amounts of Lycra, have helped the London based group sell over 130 million records worldwide.

Between 1975 and 1995 Queen released over 15 studio albums.  The group are responsible for introducing anthems like “We are the Champions” and “We will Rock you” to sporting arenas throughout the world.

In 1975 ‘Bohemian rhapsody’ which was almost six minutes long stayed at number one in the U.K charts for nine weeks.

After the success of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ the group established a reputation for scintillating live performances and played to huge audiences worldwide.  They were the first rock group to tour South America, performing at venues in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.  Re writing history as they toured, their appearances in South America received the largest paying audience than anyone else in the world.  Their single ‘Love of my Life’ remained in the Sao Paulo charts for 12 consecutive months.

The group won a host of song writing accolades, and produced the soundtrack to Flash Gordon and Highlander, two of the decade’s biggest films.

Controversially in 1984, the band performed in South Africa during Apartheid and was subsequently black listed by the United Nations.  Any damage done by their decision to play in South Africa, was undone by a performance at the Live Aid concert in 1985.  There appearance at the Famine relief concert was regarded as the highlight of the evening.

On November 23rd 1991, a frail Freddie mercury announced to the worlds press, that he was suffering from aids.   Freddie died at home the next day.

After his death, the remaining group members re-released Bohemian Rhapsody as a charity single and performed at Wembley celebrating the life of their flamboyant friend.

Today the remaining members continue to record music.  In 2002 a collection of Queens’ greatest hits was turned in to a musical production.
