Garbage was the creation of producers Butch Vig, Steve Marker and Duke Erikson. They met whilst performing in the band, Spooner. It all came together when they met femme fatale scotslady Shirley Manson, ex singer of Angelfish and Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. Her eyeliner, her angst and a big bitch attitude helped Garbage’s self titled debut album become an instant success with Almo Sounds
The band is bizarrely eclectic in sound, performing anything from a sweaty gig to the James Bond Theme, ‘The World Is Not Enough’. There is a softer side to the band, however. They endorse numerous links on their website to charities such as Amnesty International. This year will be the tenth anniversary of the band. When asked how she felt, Manson replies ‘Ten fucking years ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! The very idea blows my brain'. Nuff said!
