More Jamie Lidell
Caught somewhere between Prince and Aphex Twin, mixed up in an aural blender and filtered through classic soul, Jamie Lidell confounds expectations and defies definition.
He first slid onto the musical radar working with Cristian Vogel under the Super_Collider moniker, producing electro-funk that received widespread acclaim. However things got serious for Lidell when he produced his debut solo album, ‘Muddlin’ Gear’ on Warp, and the electronica community heard a dizzying electronica mash-up with truly soulful vocals shining through the mix.
He still remained within the tight-knit IDM community until his new LP, ‘Multiply’, dropped in 2005. Eschewing the mangled difficult nature of his early work in favour of a more straight up R & B style, critics and music fans across the board jumped on Lidell as a fresh face for a tired genre. Here’s hoping he doesn’t go all Nytol on us then…
