According to the Mayan calender, the world is due to end this Friday 21 December 2012. To celebrate this moment we have compiled the perfect playlist for the end of the world party.

Whether you believe the Mayan's predictions or not, the arrival of of Armageddon should be celebrated with a song or ten.

We chose a collection of suitably apocalyptic tunes to accompany you on the big day, just in case anything does go down. What would be on your end of the world playlist? Check out our selections below.

Go out in true 80's style with Swedish rockers, Europe. The big haired group were obviously hopeful that we would find somewhere other than earth to call home: "We're heading for Venus/And still we stand tall."

This song may well be about sex, but why not go out with a bang? See the apocalypse out with a loved one and some Def Leppard rocking on the stereo. "Are you gettin' it? Armageddon it!"

A track that is about a broken romance, but comparisons between that and the end of the world are numerous. It can sometimes seem like the end of the world after a break-up, but if the Mayan calender is correct, the lyrics of this Skeeter Davis classic will take on a different meaning.

REM are a band perfect for any apocolypse party, Michael Stipe's chipper tones are just what you need come the end. The end may even feel like a relief after listening to this for four minutes.

Actually one of The Cure's least gloomy tracks which even became their highest charting single. A band that ooze the apocalypse made a song as heartbreaking as the world's end would be.

Another devastating love song that will make you want to hold loved ones close on doomsday. Boyz II Men's classic that talks of not being able to let go even though it's the end. See the world out with a bit of classic soul.

All Britney Spears is really singing about is having a great night out which she doesn't want to end. However, there could have been a hidden meaning and maybe she knew something we didn't? Well, maybe not but this eurodance hit will put a bit of life into any Armageddon themed party.

A bit of British rock now with a single about 'the end' inspired by religious zealots and their talk of the end of the world. This Muse track is perhaps the most apt track on our list.

Smashing Pumpkins 'Doomsday Clock' was a celebration of the end of a certain American President's reign. As well as politics, this guitar-fueled anthem was alledgedly about freedom that the band felt was being curbed by the U.S government. Sounds like the band would be happy to see the end of the world.

Beyonce admits in this song that she will be there until the end for hubby Jay-Z. 'Till The End of Time' is more about wedding vows, love and all those nice things, but it should be a nice distraction from the fact that the Mayan calender is about to end. Gulp.
