US sisters Haim have this week been named the Sound of 2013 by the BBC in their annual poll to tip the hottest new bands of the year. But who are this three piece?
Past winners of the poll have included massive stars like Adele, Jessie J and even 50 Cent, so there's a good chance we'll be hearing a lot more from Haim.
But who are they? Where have they come from? Do they have any relation to teen idol Corey Haim? And why are they causing such excitement in the music industry? Check out the ten essential facts on the girlband set to make a stir this year.
1. Haim is the surname of all 3 members of the girlband. The band are keeping it in the family; Este, Danielle and Alana are all sisters (Alana is the youngest, Este the eldest).
2. The girls used to play in a family rock band called Rockinhaim with their parents, before they kicked their parents out. Watch them performing a song with their mum and dad below.
3. Vogue magazine wins the award for most compound nouns used to describe Haim's sound in their definition of the trio as 'stripped-back nu-folk–meets–nineties-R&B-pop'
4. Haim's single 'Don't Save Me' was released in October and reached number 74 in the UK charts - but with the Sound of 2013 win and guaranteed exposure in coming weeks, expected a much higher placing very soon. Listen below.
5. Haim have toured with the likes of Ke$ha, Mumford & Sons and Florence & The Machine. Danielle has previously toured with Jenny Lewis and The Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas.
6. The Strokes' Julian Casablancas is responsible for kickstarting the band, offering the girls his pearls of wisdom. According to the band he told them 'Just write. Write and come back and hit the ground running' and that's what they did.
7. Este did a degree at UCLA focusing on Brazilian music and percussion. She was also in Bulgarian Women's choir.
8. The girlband claim The Beatles, The Doors, The Eagle, hip-hop, pop and motown amongst their influences growing up.
9. All three sisters contribute to the songwriting of their music.
10. Haim's debut album is out this year.
