Hello there, the weekend. Considering it's been a four day week (for most of us), this week hasn't really seemed any shorter than any other week in 2013 so far.
The biggest new track of the week was undeniably Beyonce's 'Grown Woman' - or at least, the one minute clip we were treated to, and even though it was a soft drinks commercial as much as a new release, the track is pretty damn good.
As usual, new music this week comes from a mix of established names and rising new stars. Check out the best new tracks of the week below...
Valentina 'Ladders'
The connection to Hot Chip and 2 Bears star Joe Goddard is cool enough, but newcomer Valentina is setting herself up for something quite spectacular with her upcoming Wolves EP. Following the sublime title track, this week saw the premiere of 'Ladders', a mid-tempo, beautifully paced track with shades of Kate Bush at her best.
LIFE 'See The Light'
Newcomers LIFE are a London four-piece, who have impressed us from the off with their debut release, 'See The Light'. A gritty slice of guitar-led, lo-fi electronica, 'See The Light' is an example of how far guitar bands have progressed in 2013. The track will be released as a free download from 27 May. Everyone's a winner.
Random Impulse 'Best Party Ever'
BIG NEW BAND ALERT: A strange, confusing and completely amazing blast of hip-hop and rock, the new single from London lad Random Impulse is hybrid mix of genres, and even manages to pull off a guitar solo that the Arctic Monkeys would be proud of. The video is ace as well. Genre-bending brilliance.
ASAP Rocky & Jessie Ware - 'Wildest Moments' (remix)
It would seem Jessie Ware is finding it difficult to put a foot wrong at the moment. Although fairly similar to the original 'Wildest Moments', A$AP Rocky brings that hip-hop solo to freshen the track up and his lyrical flow definitely fits with the song brilliantly. Not much else has changed and Jessie's voice is still effortlessly beautiful throughout. Well worth a spin this weekend.
The Knife - 'A Tooth For An Eye' (Cooly G remix)
This is a rumbling little remix that could easily serve as a Saturday night song or a Sunday chill out at home tune. Hyperdub's Cooly G has given 'A Tooth For An Eye' a fresh feeling with a massive kick-drum and some popping percussion leaving us hoping The Knife's new album Shaking the Habitual brings more of the same when its released next week.
Beyonce - 'Mirrors'
It may be a teaser and it not much more than a glorified Pepsi advert, but the snippet we have heard so far proves the Beyonce's new album deserves to be one the most eagerly anticipated of the year. 'Grown Woman' has that classic Beyonce attitude and you can picture her now on the world's biggest stages pulling out amazing moves to this funky track. The upbeat tune is set to be her first proper single from her 2013 album.
Enter Shikari - 'The Paddington Frisk'
This new track sees the 2013 return of Enter Shikari and it has already been picked up as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World on his Radio One show. 'The Paddington Frisk' is a minute and a half of pure electronic hardcore and the video is worth a watch for it's madness alone. Definitely one for the hardcore fans out there, packed full of energy, screaming and a beat that makes you feel like you're going to have a breakdown - in a good way.
