No matter how bad your morning, there is always time for the Today programme, a daily slice of Radio 4 goodness that comes with news, Thought For The Day and best of all, the unflappable John Humphrys tearing someone to shreds.
This morning John Lydon was in the firing line, talking about his history in order to promote his biography Anger Is An Energy. The resulting was one of the most blistering interviews we've heard in a while, with two extremely strong wills butting heads. These are some of the best bits....
1) Subject: Lydon's advertising Country Life
John Lydon: "Just don't dictate to me that I should tow the line along with the rest of you because I'm not going to do that."
John Humphries: "But you are. I mean you're selling butter on television."
JL: "How's that?"
JH: "Because that makes you part of the establishment."
JL: "Do you not eat? Am I not allowed to eat? It's a food product and it's one I like."
JH: "But..."
JL: "But what? Butter, butter, butter! It's lovely it's yummy stuff."
2. The Sex Pistols taking on the establishment
JL: "It was no fun to be discussed in the House Of Commons under the Traitors and Treason act."
JH: "Great publicity"
JL: "Great publicity? It carried a death sentence mate. Let's get real serious."
3. Why Lydon isn't trying to change society
JH: "You have had a lasting influence on music, what you haven't succeeded in doing is changing society and if that's what you were really setting out to do all those years ago."
JL: "You put an awful lot on me don't ya?"
JH: "That's what you were claiming"
JL: "No I wasn't you silly sausage!"
JH: "You know what I've never been called a silly sausage on air before."
