Frightened Rabbit are on the eve of releasing not only one of the albums of the year, but the best of their career to date. To find out what went into Painting Of A Panic Attack, we thought we'd get to the bottom of what makes frontman Scott Hutchison really tick - and what he's been enjoying in his down time.
So far as part of our Frightened Rabbit takeover, we've had an in-depth chat with Hutchison opening up about heartache, recovery, The National and the trouble with Miles Kane - before drummer and brother Grant gave us his guide to the finest pubs for a pint in Glasgow.
Now, Scott sits down to talk us through his listening and reading habits, and reveals a deep, dark desire to one day appear on Bake Off... Check out a playlist of his favourite artists below.
What have you been listening to lately?
"I don't listen to as much music as I used to, I'm loathed to switch off in that way. I also dread analysing music, which is why I tend to listen to something that helps me drift off. Just let the music happen. I'm into stuff that's not really defined as songwriting as such.
"Max Richter, From Sleep - I've really been enjoying that. Just got hold of the new Minor Victories album, that's brilliant - kind of like if Arcade Fire existed in the 1980s. I've been enjoying Ex-Hex too, and Heather Woods Broderick - she plays in Sharon Van Etten's band and she's put out her own record, which I love."
What would you say are the records that you always return to?
"The National, they're a constant, while Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is constantly revealing itself. I totally overplayed that last Sharon Van Etten record, I always go back to Phosphorescent. I always go back to The Twilight Sad, which is strange because you feel weird listening to someone constantly when they're a close friend, but their first album is outstanding. What's happened to them on their last album is incredible, they're going on tour with The Cure, which isn't bad."
Have you been reading anything decent?
"I've just finished The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson, I think I passed, I did OK. It's strange to start assessing people that you meet on that scale. A psychopath isn't interested in anyone but themselves at all."
Do you watch much TV?
"I've been watching the Great Sport Relief Bake Off. I'm a massive fan of that. If I could get to the stage where we get popular enough, then on the way down it allows me to do something like Celebrity Masterchef. It won't ever happen, but I would relish going on that."
