In this day and age, where everyone fancies themselves an amateur detective, it's a wonder any publication still thinks they can get away with photoshop. And yet, not only do they orchestrate the occasional tweak here and there, they also occasionally render their subjects unrecognisable. Or, as Meghan Trainor put it this week, "they broke my ribs."
It sets a terrible standard for beauty and body size when even the world's most glamorous and successful musicians are deemed unacceptable in their natural form. Here's some of the worst incidents of photoshop fails.
Meghan Trainor

Yesterday, just a few hours after the video for ‘Me Too’ was released, Meghan Trainor took it down after realising they had “photoshopped the crap out of me.” She added, "I don’t know why they didn’t like my waist, but I didn’t approve that video and it went out for the world, so I’m embarrassed… The video is still one of my favorite videos I’ve ever done, I’m very proud of it. I just am pissed off that they broke my ribs, you know?” She’s since re-uploaded it, and drawn attention to the difference between the two versions.
Fifth Harmony

You’re probably thinking, ‘What’s wrong with this Billboard cover photo? They all look great, and their actual body shape.” Well, look closer. Ally Brooke Hernandez (who’s sat on the stairs, second from the bottom) seems to have been accidentally given two right feet.
Beyonce

When a press release was sent around by fashion designer Roberto Cavalli promoting a dress she’d worn for The Mrs Carter Tour, the accompanying picture seemed to have completely eradicated her hips, thighs and - well - most of her body. It didn’t go down well.
5 Seconds Of Summer’s Ashton Irwin

The band appeared naked on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, with words scrawled all over their bodies. It seems all wasn't what it seemed with the shoot though. Ashton Irwin, who's second form the right in the photo, tweeted photo that zoomed in on his thigh, and wrote, "They made my thigh skinny, in real life my band calls be [sic] quad-zilla lol.”
Maroon 5’s Adam Levine

Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam Levine, as it seems he has had a large chunk of his lower torso removed, courtesy of Vogue Russia.
Justin Bieber

Not only has Bieber’s six pack been enhanced by Calvin Klein for this underwear campaign, he’s also had a significant, er, bulge added to his pants.
Lady Gaga
Well, this one's not a mishap exactly. The singer’s Artpop album was initially banned in China, because the country’s culture minister believed that she “corrupted morals.” Eventually though, it was released - but the artwork had been digitally altered to cover her bare chest (despite the fact that she’s covering it with her hands in the original version) and to give her a nice pair off woolly tights.
Mariah Carey
It seems Carey’s team decided to cut corners when it came to the artwork for 2014 single ‘You Don’t Know What To Do’. They just took the artwork for Elusive Chanteuse and photoshopped her face onto it at an unnatural angle. Carey’s response? “Ugh!”

When Vogue posted a behind-the-scenes video of their 2012 cover shoot with Lady Gaga, it became abundantly clear how much they had digitally manipulated the finished product.
