Edinburgh’s Young Fathers have today released a video to accompany new song 'Lord', taken from their forthcoming album which is due next March.

Speaking about the video, Young Fathers’ Alloysious Massaquoi said the idea for the video stemmed from the difficulties of trying to describe an emotion.

“Like how do you describe an emotion, clearly and precisely when you’re completely immersed in it all?” Massaquoi said. “An act of internal withdrawal from the outside world when all you need from the outside world is for someone, anyone, to show they care.”

The piano based song is underscored with drones and subtle electronica. It features the lyrics “if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.”

The surrealist video accompanying the songs, directed by Rianne White, sees members of the band variously on a beach, riding horses or sat on a rocking horse – something that emerged after one of the members brought a rocking horse into a recording.

Graham ‘G’ Hastings added: “Kayus brought a rocking horse into the studio one day. God knows why. After we wrote the song, Ally sat on it, took his top off and started riding majestic. Then we thought, why not?”
