St. Lucia is the one-man project from Brooklyn based producer Jean-Philip Groble - and it's as perfect as bloke-pop gets.
Born in South Africa, the tribal elements of his homeland are notable in his soaring sound, most notable in the pounding, animalistic beats of the astoundingly brilliant 'The Old House Is Gone'. The chic influence of his current Brooklyn home keep his club influences restrained and composed - allowing a more notable band sound shine through on the likes of 'All Eyes On You'.
Previously compared to The Temper Trap or Empire of The Sun, St.Lucia shares the same wistful sensibilities as these band - sharing a similar blend of masculine, sun-drenched pop.
St. Lucia describes his sound as "what happens when the long and bleak winters of New York recede and summer emerges; giving birth to memories of childhood holidays, faded photos of exotic places and the dream of recapturing this". We'd probably put things a little simpler and say - 'this is great pop music with just the right amount of club and indie influences to appeal to a mass, but ultra credible, market.'
Being signed to US label Neon Gold only enhances Groble's effortless cool, check out St.Lucia's self-titled EP below.
