AlunaGeorge sprung a surprise on us this week when they released their new EP, 'You Know You Like It', online. It was a nice surprise though, much more 'secret birthday party' than 'this chicken isn't cooked properly'.
The duo, comprising of Aluna (Francis, vocals) and George (Reid, production) have been on our radar for a while having won us over to their modern take on 90's R'n'B last year. The song that caught us then was 'You Know You Like It', something we most certainly did, and we're glad to see the track featuring and providing the name to AlunaGeorge's first proper release.
The pair have hooked up with Tri-Angle for the EP with the radio-friendly, pop style of AlunaGeorge something of a change for the label that has brought us the likes of Clams Casino, Evian Christ and Holy Other.
'Just A Touch' is our favourite track on the EP and you can stream it below. With it's bouncing rhythm and well crafted twist of nostalgia and futurism we think it's one of the best examples of a sound that is everywhere right now, but rarely done so well.
Aaliyah and Timbaland are definitely the names to drop in 2012 but Aluna Francis isn't so predictable and says she is more inspired by the likes of The Knife and PJ Harvey - something reflected in her unique vocals. George is clearly devoted to the 90's aesthetic though and it wouldn't surprise us to find a shrine to The neptunes in his bedroom - never a bad thing, we're sure you'll agree.
Check out 'Just A Touch' below and be sure to pick up the full EP which is available digitally now and on 12" vinyl from June 11th.
