Heartfelt folk rock from Brooklyn-to-Denver transplants

The folk-rock thing is big right now, without a doubt – you only have to take a look at the success of Mumford & Sons to see that. While it’s possible to get a little sick of all the tweed and braces, new Denver band The Lumineers are a cut above the rest of the hay-rolling generation of new bands.

Which is to say, really, that if you don’t listen to their debut single ‘Ho Hey’ then you’re missing out. There’s something uplifting and jubilant about it – The Lumineers manage to neatly side-step the sense of pessimism and heartbreak that sometimes comes along with nostalgic reverie and instead the song embodies those faint stirrings of hope.

The important thing about The Lumineers is that they seem so genuine. They enjoy what they do and, just as importantly, they’re good at it.
