They might be called The 1975, but this four-piece are anything but dated.

Hailing from Manchester, The 1975 - who seem to encompass everything from indie to rock 'n' roll, although we'd place them overall somewhere around ambient pop - have been labeled almost unanimously as 'one to watch', and it's almost impossible not to agree.

The thing we like best about the band is that their songs manage to feature all of our favourite things to hear on a record - reverb soaked guitars, buzzy synth undertones and lyrics that are honest and straightforward while still packing an impact. For example, take lead singer Matt Healy's explanation to Vogue of the meaning of song 'You'; "Stop talking shit and grow up." Refreshingly succinct.

The 1975 manage to switch from sweeping, watery ambience to upbeat, spacey pop while still retaining a sense of coherence, which is a feat in and of itself.

Check out their track 'Sex' below, from the upcoming Sex EP  - we promise you'll enjoy it.

The Sex EP is available from 19 November in the UK, and 20 November in the US.
