American Idiot is the latest musical stage show to be created from the music of a successful band.
Shows like Mamma Mia! and We Will Rock You have already found success with this formula, and the Spice Girls inspired Viva Forever! looms on the horizon.
American Idiot, however, was written with the help of the band themselves, with Green Day having already begun to build a storyline on the album of the same name. The musical tells the story of three friends from suburbia seeking adventure and success in the big city.
Following a critically acclaimed run in America, one which even saw Billy Joe Armstrong himself occassionally taking on one of the leading roles, the show has now arrived in the UK, with the American cast already wowing critics.
Gigwise caught up with the show's three lead actors to talk about their own love for Green Day, whether Billie Joe Armstrong's current rehab stint puts a dampner on the show and potential backlash from Green Day fans...
American Idiot is showing at London's Hammersmith Apollo until 16 December, 2012.
