LULS are a London art-pop trio that are looking to be one of the leading lights in the revival of guitar bands in 2013. Merging a huge rock sound with pop hooks is certainly one way to lead the line and get noticed. Not bad for a band that have a frontman who didn't want to be a frontman.

Lead singer, Shaun Paterson shares his vocal duties with bandmate Adam Prendergast and reveals that he wasn't too sure about the idea of being a singer.

He says, "I think it's more the fact that I hadn't done it. It was quite daunting to going from being on guitar where you can stand there and do your thing, let your hair cover your face and rock out without having to engage with anyone.

"You can do your thing but once you have have a microphone in front of you and you have to express your emotions via the medium of your voice to the world and actually speaking to an audience is a bit of a step up. Initially I thought it was so scary but now it's fine."

The chemistry between the co-singers' voices is tangible and the idea to share the microphone responsibilities is turning out to be an inspired one as Shaun can cover anything "massively high or low" whilst Adam can take over for "anything in the middle".

LULS are a rare breed due to being difficult to pigeon-hole and could sit just as comfortably in the mainstream as they could on the indie guitar scene. Shaun won't thank us for saying this, but their sound has been described as 'anthemic' on several occasions and it's difficult to argue.

Shaun adds, "'Big' and 'anthemic' are the two words that cause a slight war inside me. On the one hand I accept it, but the guitar indie kid that I wanted to be just wants to be cool.

"It makes me slightly nervous but I'll accept it. It's not like we sit around thinking what's going to be the biggest chord, it just happens."

However, labelling the band as 'anthemic' doesn't really do the band justice, as there is more to their sound than just a huge wall of noise. Tracks like 'Young' and new single 'Never Let It Go' are layered with beautifully catchy pop elements that stay with you longer than a huge rock riff would.

"In terms of the vocal we're not out to sing about death or anything like that," explains Shaun. "I think we have quite a wide range of tastes in music from guitar music to pop stuff and we kind of fuse those two things together hopefully somewhat successfully."

With a double A-side single due for release in March, Shaun hopes the trio can start thinking about recording their debut album.

He says, "It's more or less written but we've got the single first, then an EP to come as well. In terms of actually sitting down and starting the recording process I guess it's a way off yet."

LULS' new double A side includes 'Never Let It Go' and 'Sympathy Or Love'. Both tracks can boast of hugely electrifying choruses and will be available on March 11 2013.
