Lou Reed, Katy Perry - The week's music news in cartoons

Metallica, R Kelly & more - twisted by Batman LDN

My my - what a week it's been for the world of music. It must said that the main theme of the week would be confusion. To make it all seem a little more surreal, we've once again asked Batman LDN to put his own unqiuely twisted spin by re-imagining the biggest stories as cartoons.

So yeah - confusion. The world lost a musical visionary and true hero when Lou Reed passed away, but then some daft journalist went and confused him with Lou Bega, Lauren Laverne accidentally read out the name 'James Blunt' instead of Mercury winner 'James Blake' at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, Katy Perry declared that female popstars need to cover up (clearly confused as she's always flashing her flesh), R Kelly was mistaken for an impersonator...of himself - oh, and Metallica baffled everyone by confessing to be huge fans of Justin Bieber. Still with us? Good.

So without further ado, here are the week's biggest music news stories as seen through the eyes of Batman LDN. (See more of his work here, and follow him on Twitter here).

1. Katy Perry tells 'naked' female popstars to 'cover up' - without irony
Katy Perry has spoken out against the over-sexualisation of female artists, claiming her musical peers are 'getting naked to be noticed'. One assumes that she doesn't have a mirror. The US singer (who is seen in a tiny caveman's outfit in latest video 'Roar') made a brave and honest stand on the topic of the moment, but refused to make any specific accusations in her comments. "I'm not talking about anyone in particular," she said. "I'm talking about all of them. I mean, it's like everybody's so naked. It's like, 'Put it away. We know you've got it. I got it, too'."

2. Metallica: 'We are Beliebers'
Metallica have responded to Justin Bieber recently covering one of their classic songs by speaking of their admiration for him - admitting that they are 'Beliebers'.  Yes, you heard that right. The revelation follows on from a Youtube video posted last week that saw Justin Bieber unleashing his metal side with an impromptu 'cover' of 'Fade To Black'. When asked if they were fans, frontman James Hetfield replied: "Are we Beliebers? Yes."

3. R Kelly confused for an impersonator...of himself
R Kelly  confirmed via a representative it was indeed him who appeared at a concert in LA over the weekend and not an impersonator, following angry accusations from attendees. The singer was forced to release a statement following a news story that reported attendees who had bought $150 tickets Ced's All Black Affair featuring an appearnce from R Kelly,  uriously alleged an impersonator had been sent in his place. A spokesperson for the R&B crooner has now told Pitchfork that Kelly did appear onstage and did not send a "stunt double", reiterating that the singer was billed to 'appear' at the concert, not necessarily to perform.

4. Lou Bega confused for the late, great Lou Reed
'Mambo No.5' star Lou Bega has also paid his respects to the late, great Lou Reed - but he's also received that he's been flooded with messages of sympathy and condolence by fans who confused the two.  Bega, who enjoyed brief UK success in 1999 with his No.1 hit 'Mambo No.5' but went on to bafflingly record and release five studio albums, took to his official Facebook page to speak of his admiration of the 'genius' Reed - where he also gave insight into a mix-up with the  Velvet Underground icon: "R.I.P Lou Reed the Genius who took Walks on the Wild side. Ps: i have been receiving Tons of condolences because of a Journalist confusing our Identities. Lou Bega sends his condolences to mr.Reeds Family."
