We have our first headliner confirmed! Arcade Fire lived up to the rumours and confirmed that they'll be taking to the Pyramid Stage in 2014.
But how much else has been announed? Well, not a lot. However, that hasn't stopped information trickling through about plans for next year's Westcountry spectacular - with a number of artists confirmed (by themselves) and many more strongly rumoured to make an appearance on Worthy Farm in June next year.
Michael and Emily Eavis are among the names who have already begun dropping hints about the artists performing at Glasto 2014, but with the first big(ish) name self-confirmed for the festival, check out everything we know about Glastonbury 2014...
Arcade Fire will be headlining the Friday on the Pyramid Stage
That's right. After months of rumour, Win Butler and co have confirmed that they'll be following up the success of their stunning and acclaimed No.1 album Reflektor by bringing the carnival to Worthy Farm.confirmed that they will be performing at Glastonbury Festival 2014. Taking to the band's official Facebook page, they posted:
Lily Allen is performing (but won't be headlining)
Lily Allen was probably a really bad choice to book so early. She isn't known for keeping her mouth shut, so it was no surprise when she told the nation (live on Radio 1) that she was confirmed for Glastonbury 2014 - just a day after being booked.
Manic Street Preachers have already got their setlist planned?
They've not been confirmed, but Welsh icons Manic Street Preachers have already hinted at what they will perform at Glasto 2014 - their iconic 1994 album, The Holy Bible. "We’ve wrestled with the idea of doing a gig playing the whole of (the album), but I’m not so sure," said Nicky Wire in a 6Music interview with Lauren Laverne. "I’d like to do it at Glastonbury actually, I really would."
Dolly Parton is looking like a sure-fire thing for 2014
What would a festival be without an elderly star being helicoptered in to entertain a field of hungover indie fans? Actually, Dolly Parton's back catalogue is pretty awesome (no, really), and a conspicuous gap in her 2014 tour schedule on the weekend of Glastonbury has made her apppearance at Worthy Farm seem certain.
Metallica are DESPERATE to headline Glastonbury
Metallica have headlined a fair few festivals in their time, but as yet, one of the world's biggest still eludes them. However, Lars Ulrich laid his cards on the table, telling MTV that it was on the band's hitlist. "We've been fortunate enough to play every other festival on this planet numerous times, so Glastonbury is the only one that's eluding us," he said. "There's such a vibe and it's maybe the most quintessentially English festival. Everybody who goes there loves it and obviously Michael doesn't need our help. I completely appreciate and respect that – but if he ever wants to get hold of us we're in the Yellow Pages and ready to go!"
Fleetwood Mac's rumoured headline slot is looking unlikely...
Fleetwood Mac were heavily rumoured to headline Glastonbury 2013. They didn't, obviously. However, the rumour-mill was up and running as soon as this year's event was over and The Mac were one of the top names, once again. However, with the recent diagnosis of John McVie's cancer, what once seemed like a surefire thing is no longer looking so certain.
But some of the headliners have already been booked...
Whether its Fleetwood Mac or 'other', two of the three Glastonbury headliners are all but done-and-dusted, as Emily Eavis recently revealed that the organisers were 'close' to finalising the first two top slots at Glastonbury 2014. "We are away in Cornwall this week and I've just been talking to an agent on the phone on the beach in the rain about one of our headliners," said Emily in a recent interview with NME. "We're definitely getting close to securing two and there are a few options for the third. It's annoying really as there are lots of great bands touring next year and we'd love to have them all.
If Emily Eavis has her way, it will be Led Zeppelin and Adele headlining
Emily Eavis has taken the reigns on Glastonbury in recent years, and shortly after the 2013 festival was over, she had already named her top-two picks. "Yeah, it’s on a napkin actually. On the fridge, there... We would love to have Adele," she told the BBC. "We’d also love to have Led Zeppelin. I mean Zeppelin have got to do it haven’t they? It would be so good wouldn't it."
And if Michael Eavis gets his picks, it will be Depeche Mode, Fleetwood Mac and Elbow
Michael Eavis' picks for Glastonbury 2014 are said to be slightly different from his daughter's however, with reports claiming that he was gunning for Fleetwood Mac (sorted?), Depeche Mode and Elbow, in a report by EFestivals. The website claimed that verbal agreements were already in place in July 2013, showing how quickly the festival boss gets to work.
Could Oasis be on the line-up?
As unlikely as it seems, those Gallagher reunion rumours just won't go away, and betting odds have been slashed of Oasis reuniting to headline Glastonbury 2014. Sure, there will be a lot of water to put under the bridge before it happens, but surely the opportunity to step on the stage at the biggest event in the UK could help ease things between Brit-rock's most difficult duo?
Probably not - Michael Eavis says the headliners are 'obvious'
As brilliant as Oasis would be, Michael Eavis previous announcement that the 2014 headliners are 'obvious' might put pay to that rumour. He told the BBC in September that the headliners would be bands who had never done it before. "Pretty obvious isn't it?" he told Newsbeat. "There aren't many left. It's the process of elimination isn't it? I think we've got three or four really good ones lined up for next year and we're sorting out 2015 as well. I take the liberty of booking the headliners myself."
It's going to be the most popular one yet
Not that the headliners matter to the audience of course, if the speed of ticket sales for 2014 is anything to go by, next year's Glastonbury is going to be the most popular yet. 210,000 tickets for Glasto 2014 sold out in a record 87 minutes when they went on sale on Sunday, 6 October 2013, leading to inevitable glee and fury from those who did, and didn't, manage to secure their place at next year's biggest summer event.
More tickets will be on sale in Spring 2014
Obviously, there's thousands left gutted at being unable to snap up tickets in October. Whether it was a problem with the purchase system or simply people not getting out of bed in time on the Sunday, more tickets will go on sale in Spring of 2014, when returns go up for resale to desperate fans.
