Having already been compared to the likes of The Kills and Lana Del Rey, rising UK duo Coves (Beck Wood and John Ridgard) are set for big things in 2014, with debut album Soft Friday due for release later this year. The Leamington Spa duo have today premiered their video for the title track on Gigwise, check it out below.
'Cast A Shadow' has echoes of US duo Cults, but Coves' guitar-heavy retro sounds are doused in a sense of darkness and menace. The single is a swirling slice of sixties-influenced psychedelic rock, and the trippy, surreal video echoes and elevates the track's retro sounds perfectly. Watch the video for 'Cast A Shadow' below, first on Gigwise.
Coves release their debut album Soft Friday on 31 March 2014, and comes highly recommended. Influenced by frontwoman Beck Wood's relationship breakdown, she has revealed how recording the album was an opportunity to vent her feelings about her ex.
"It was a frustrating time," she says. "I was trying to voice my anger. It’s about heartache and revenge. I was freshly single so, right, let’s get the knives out."
The band have bene tipped for success by the likes of The Guardian, The Independent, Dazed & Confused, NME and many more, as well as finding favour with BBC tastemakers Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe.
