More about:

As the news that Justin Bieber had been arrested on charges of DUI and drag racing spread like wildfire on the internet yesterday (January 23), people responded to the news in a variety of ways.

Some were overjoyed, some didn't give a toss, and some pretended not to know who Justin Bieber is so they could look cool. The strongest reactions, however, came from Justin's diehard, terrifyingly loyal fanbase: the Beliebers, who seemed to go through the seven stages of emotion in the space of about an hour. Check out the craziest reactions below.

Below: musicians who went off the rails at a young age

  • Justin Bieber: Where else to begin but Bieber? The teen singer started off as a squeaky clean, mop haired innocent but in the past couple of years its been a blur of brothels, driving offences and more recently, links to drugs and alcohol. The 19-year-old has admitted to smoking weed, and today (January 23) he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence on Miami Beach.

  • Sky Ferreira: The 'Everything Is Embarrassing' singer was arrested alongside boyfriend and DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith for possession of ecstasy and heroin (her the ecstasy, Smith the heroin) in September 2013, months before the release of her debut album. However, Ferreira defended herself in numerous interviews following the arrest, telling Billboard: "I know I'm not a drug addict."

  • Nick Carter: The Backstreet Boys member recently admitted in his autobiography he drank heavily and dabbled in drugs frequently during the boyband's heyday. "During the height of my problems, I did Ecstasy, cocaine and drank a large bottle of vodka a night," he admitted.

  • Demi Lovato: The former Disney star and American Idol judge battled with an addiction to drugs at the age of 19, admitting she "couldn't go half an hour without cocaine", even smuggling it into aeroplanes. At the height of her troubles, she infamously punched a backing dancer in the face for allegedly telling Lovato's management she had been out all night partying.

  • Kelly Osbourne: Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne's daughter launched a short-lived music career of her own in 2002 at the age of 17 - whilst she was battling a serious addiction to prescription drugs. "I knew if I didn't get help, I would die," Osbourne says now.

  • Britney Spears: Spears' stratospheric rise to fame at such a young age ultimately took its toll on the singer. Her breakup with Justin Timberlake in 2002 sadly sent her on a downward spiral, which culminated in her checking into rehab for an alleged addiction to drugs in 2007 and an involuntary hospitalization for psychiatric breakdown in 2008.

  • Charlotte Church: Welsh opera singer Church spent most of her transformation into adulthood being scrutinised by the press, so it's no surprise she was labelled an "alcoholic" after she was spotted on a series of messy-looking nights out. In 2006, at the age of 19, she revealed she would drink at least 10 double vodkas on a night out.
