The folk-rock scene has exploded in recent years, with feelgood country influences making a welcome return to the mainstream. The latest addition, and one of the most exciting, are US quartet Twin Forks, who have today premiered their debut album in full on Gigwise.
From the pounding beats of album opener 'Can't Be Broken' to the delicate wistfulness of 'Who's Looking Out', the band's self-titled album is a brilliantly warm and uplifting experience, powered by the twin vocals of frontman Chris Carrabba and fellow vocalist Suzie Zeldin. Carraba is a former member of the much-missed Dashboard Confessional, while other members of the band cut their teeth in the likes of The Narrative and Bad Books.
"Whatever makes the audience stomp their feet and sing at the top of their lungs, that's what I want to be doing," says Carrabba of the band's debut album, adding that he tried to bring something a little harder to the band's sound on their debut album.
"I thought, why can't I combine this punk and hardcore feeling with this classic folk feeling - because they were both such massive loves of mine. But right now i'm more excited about utlizing the age-old, time-tested thing and trying to excel within the parameters of a traditional template."
Carrabba's distinctive drawl gives Twin Forks a harder edge than many of their contemporaries, and his rock and roll style even toughens up the soft sounds of a banjo on tracks such as 'Cross My Mind' and 'Scraping Up The Pieces', while the likes of 'Come On' are dreamy campfire ballads.
The band release their debut album on 17 March 2014, but are streaming the album online in full, exclusively on Gigwise. Listen to Twin Forks below, first.
The band were recently forced to cancel a string of UK shows, with scheduling conflicts blamed for the axed gigs. "You guys in the UK and Europe were the first to embrace our band so it pains us to have to reschedule our upcoming tour there," said Carrabba in a statement to fans.
"Scheduling conflicts happen and we hope you trust that we will make it up to you. Thank you for your support and understanding."
