Sing-alongs, sprawling sets and one hell of a blistering rock show: there's nothing quite like a Foo Fighters' gig. With tickets to their 2015 UK tour on sale this week, next year's masive run of stadium shows look set up the Foos' game even higher - and Dave Grohl is well aware of the task at hand.
In a year where the band celebrate their 20th anniversary, Foo Fighters not only have to show that they're still at the peak of their powers with Sonic Highways, but melt the faces of hundreds of thousands with a two decade legacy of doing so.
They're playing a Queen-esque run of two nights at Wembley - so who better to look to for inspiration that Freddie Mercury?
"At this point, we have a lot of songs," Grohl tells Gigwise. "We have a lot of die-hard fans and we have a lot of new fans - so we like to try and appease everyone. When you play a gig like that, I'm not going to turn my back to the audience and play some kind of challenging B-side shit.
"I'm going to try and turn around and get 60,000 people to try and get 60,000 to sing along to the chorus like Freddie Mercury at Live Aid. That's to me, a fucking stadium show. We've got into this bad habit of playing until they tell us to stop. We even bypass the encore - it's like 'Don't even walk off stage because you're going to waste fucking three minutes'."
And, nodding to the future as well as the past, the band have invited none other than rock's great hope Royal Blood to support them on certain dates - a decision that Grohl says was easy to make.
"I don't know why but I was on Youtube and I saw this little side-bar thing that said 'Royal Blood at Glastonbury' and it was fucking great! I was so happy to see people with fucking instruments going bananas, and then I found out that they've got the No.1 record, I was like 'Oh, there's hope!'."
And what to expect of their own set?
"We'll just go and play until they tell us to shut up."
