There is a phenomenon that is peculiar only to Major Lazer shows: an unusual crowd formation known as a 'twerk riot'.

Gigwise first learns of this when we meet the band in London's Edition Hotel. The trio of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire are in remarkably good form given they only got off stage at 2am. They certainly put on a hell of a show at The Victoria in Dalston - including previewing their forthcoming new album Peace Is The Mission and a surprise airing of Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You' alongside dropping tracks by Riff Raff and Rae Sremmurd. The crowning glory comes in the form of Major Lazer's biggest radio hit yet - the massive 'Lean On' featuring Mo.
Such success does come at a price though: the constant threat of a 'twerk riot' breaking out. Walshy Fire shares this particular first world problem of female fans expressing themselves with too much gusto. "One girl was so annoying," he says with feeling. "She kept going 'Wes do you remember me?' I was saying 'Get off the stage! This is the wrong time!'" Then these girls started fighting in the front for twerk space. There's not ever enough twerk space at the club. At the front, it's like Oxford Street: crammed up!"

For Gigwise's interview they discuss how the nature of DJing has changed in the digital era (Diplo recalls the moment any crate digger realises "I just wasted ten years of my life collecting records and now everything's in digital mp3 format"). The trio also give their tips on collaborating in the Dropbox age. "90% of the songs we wrote with people and recorded them live," explains Diplo, who also reveals how he got the best out of his sessions with 2 Chainz and Pusha T. The producer also discusses how there is a serious amount of work that goes into a Major Lazer anthem. "It's a process. Sometimes songs take 13, 14, 20, 30 versions. I know 'Get Free' was on its 18th mix before we got it right."
In all, it suggests this is as a band, Major Lazer are in their element. As Diplo puts it, the trio are now all about extremes: "There's got to be the softest of the soft, like Charmin...and then there's going to be stuff like 'Roll The Bass' which is going to sandpaper your head."
