The estate of Jimi Hendrix has authorised the first official biopic of the late rock legend.
An agreement has been reached with Legendary Pictures, and director Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips, United 93) is in talks to helm the project depicting Jimi Hendrix, who died in 1970 aged just 27.
The biopic will be based on a script from Scott Silver, who wrote 2002’s 8 Mile, starring Eminem. It will also feature actual Hendrix recordings, Deadline reports.
The project was apparently stalled by the Hendrix estate initially as they disliked the script and the way Hendrix was portrayed. But now it has the green light, the filmmakers will be granted access to the rock star’s full discography.
Last year, Outkast frontman Andre 3000 starred as Jimi in the unauthorised All Is By My Side, but without the sanction of the Hendrix estate it could not use recordings by the musician.
