After Bestival announced Missy Elliott as the final headliner this morning, despite Matt Bellamy seeming to let slip last month that Muse would be performing, the festival has now insisted, "We still have a very special guest to announce."
In an interview at The Snooker World Championships last month, Matt Bellamy said: "We're doing Download Festival, which is like the metal festival, and Bestival in Isle of Wight later in the year, and next year we'll do our own tour obviously."
Unsurprisingly, most fans and media outlets alike took this as pretty firm confirmation that Muse would be headlining the September festival, joining Underworld, Duran Duran and The Chemical Brothers.
This morning, though, it was revealed that Missy Elliott will be headlining Sunday night as a European festival exclusive. This makes her one of the very few women, alongside Florence + The Machine who stepped in last minute to replace Foo Fighters at Glastonbury, to headline a major festival this (or any other) summer.
As Bestival's Twitter account was inundated with Muse fans asking whether Matt Bellamy had got it wrong, the festival repeatedly replied, "We still have a special guest to announce!" - including replying to a tweet from fan account Muse News, which hadn't actually @ed Bestival.
@gigwise we still have a very special guest to announce!
