Lionel Richie delights massive crowd at Glastonbury

The Pyramid Stage says 'hello' to pop icon

Lionel Richie just tore the roof off of Glastonbury, playing an incredible set to a gargantuan crowd.

Filling the traditional 'legends' slot on The Pyramid Stage, Richie reeled off hits from across his illustrious career to delight a 100,000 strong crowd. Seriously, that was incredible.

"This has been a long time coming," Richie told the crowd. "But finally I made it to Glastonbury" - adding that he'd brought along a little 'Californian sunshine'.

Playing both his own solo material and a range of audience pleasing Commodores classics, Richie effortlessly confirmed his legendary status, perfectly filling the slot that Dolly Parton dominated last year.

Looking genuinely awestruck by the response, Richie was clearly overwhelmed by the audience interaction on the likes of 'Hello' (which saw him down a pint of some kind of red liquid beforehand), 'Dancing On The Ceiling', The Commodores oh so fitting 'Easy' and the immensely popular 'All Night Long'.

But really, what we need to talk about is how 'Brickhouse' is probably the greatest song ever written.

Probably the biggest crowd of the weekend so far, audience participation hit fever pitch, with Richie repeatedly looking awe-struck at the sheer love and adoration he received - repeatedly asking the masses "what is going on?"

To mark 30 years of the massive 'USA For Africa' charity single, Lionel closed with the beautiful outro of 'We Are The World'. Then the Bishop of Bristol came out, or something. Whatever - make no mistake: that was one of the true defining moments of Glastonbury 2015.

Lionel Richie played:
Running With the Night
Penny Lover
Easy (Commodores song)
You Are
Three Times a Lady (Commodores song)
Brick House (Commodores song)
Stuck on You Lady (You Bring Me Up) (Commodores song)
My Destiny
Angel
Say You, Say Me
Dancing on the Ceiling
Hello
All Night Long (All Night)
We Are the World (U.S.A. for Africa cover)
