Damon Albarn has revealed that he will start recording a new Gorillaz album in September.

Albarn teased the possibility of new music with his virtual band, a collaboration with Jamie Hewlett, last year - telling Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald that he hoped to get the band back together for a 2016 release.

It seems there's something about Australia that gets Albarn talking, as he's now told Australian TV programme ABC 7.30: "I'm starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record. I've just been really, really busy so I haven't had a chance. I'd love to just get back in to that routing of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week."

The band released their fourth album, The Fall, back in 2011, but went on hiatus shortly afterwards. Albarn revealed to The Guardian that the pair had fallen out and future projects were "unlikely." Over the past year or so though, things have begun looking more positive.

Earlier this year, Jamie Hewlett revealed new drawings of the band's fictional members on Instagram, and responded to a fan's query with, "Yes Gorillaz Returns."
