Great Odin’s Raven! A week after we rounded up the best hip-hop mashups of all time, a magnificent Weezer and Kanye West mash-up album has been unleashed into the musical universe and changed absolutely everything. Listen to it below.
Yeezer is a 10 track album combining the kings of power pop and the future President of the United States, using tracks that span across both the acts’ extensive back catalogues. In short, it’s pretty fucking great.
Ohio State fresher Alex Hodowanec told Radio.com’s Jay Tilles that he was already a huge Weezer fan when a friend jokingly suggested the name Yeezer to him. It was at this point that the amazing idea was born, occurring in a similar fashion to that episode of Scrubs with the epiphany toilet on the roof. “The only requirement” for the project, says Hodowanec, “was that they sound good together.”

The mash-up album rejuvenates lesser known Weezer tracks that are often unforgivably swept under the carpet, especially with their 2009 album, Raditude. A particular highlight is ‘The Girl Got BLKKK’, a concoction of Weezer’s spectacular ‘The Girl Got Hot’ and Kanye’s ‘Black Skinhead’, the mix transforming Mr West’s dark and ferocious anthem into a gloriously colourful and victorious cut that leaves you with an uncontrollable, beaming smile.
After being taken down by Bandcamp, the album has found its new sanctuary on Audiomack, where Hodowanec is keeping it as a free download. Using a Christ metaphor that Yeezy would surely approve of, the university student explains, “All music [on Yeezer] belongs to… Kanye West and Weezer. I am just the disciple.”
