Despite the station basically admitting it themselves, Edith Bowman has defended Radio X against accusations of sexism.
The new, rebranded version of Xfm launched last month, with an all-male lineup of DJs that includes Chris Moyles, Johnny Vaughan, Vernon Kay and Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson.
In press releases, the station described itself as "the first truly male-focused, fully national music and entertainment brand for 25-44 year olds." Thank goodness. Men are criminally under-represented in the world of media and entertainment...
Speaking to Digital Spy though, Edith Bowman has defended the station's male-centric approach. "Listen, they approached me about doing it," she said. "I couldn't commit to it to be honest. I didn't really know where I wanted to go radiowise."
Speaking of the idea that the station is sexist, she added, "I've got experience of that being absolutely ridiculous. And I'm sure that over time as well we'll see more women being part of that schedule."
Chris Moyles kicked off his tenure as the station's breakfast host last month, and mocked the accusations of sexism by opening the show with Girls Aloud's 'Love Machine'.
