Metallica frontman James Hetfield has confirmed that the band are currently in the studio recording their new album.

If you listen carefully you can actually hear the sound of brand new Metallica songs being recorded, because they're probably being layed down as you read this - how cool is that?

The band's last album, Death Magnetic, came out all the way back in 2008 but it's not like the band have been taking time to relax. Between their amazing Reading + Leeds headline shows and commissioning a comic book about their lives, the band have been rearing up for album number ten.

Speaking in an interview with EMG guitars, Hetfield said: "we’re recording right now, and there’s the number one guitar, there’s the number two guitar, there’s the number three. And the third-track guitars that just sound different. They all sound different".

While guitars and all their different sounds are very exciting, the news that there is definitely a new Metallica in the works is just a day-maker.

For every Metallica fan, this is a dream come true but for Keith Richards, it's just another part of the nightmare - the Rolling Stones guitarist recently slammed the metal band as a "joke".
