After months of rumours and speculation, Red Hot Chili Peppers have been announced as the first headliners of Reading & Leeds Festival 2016. Hinds, The 1975, Slaves and Courteeners are also among the first batch of acts confirmed for next year's line-up.
Red Hot Chili Peppers' appearance will be a festival exclusive, as the band gear up for the release of their 11th studio album. When they were asked which UK festival they'd like to play, said Chad Smith, "the simultaneous answer was 'Reading and Leeds'."
The 1975 - who release their hugely anticipated second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It, in February - are also set to return to the festival, whic h takes place between 26 and 28 August.
The brilliant Hinds - who took a trip to the record store with Gigwise last week - will also perform following the release of their debut album, Leave Me Alone. As well as the aforementioned acts, Twenty One Pilots, Boy Better Know, DJ EZ, Crossfaith and Rat Boy are also set to appear.
