Merry Christmas for fans of the Fab Four - The Beatles catalogue may be appearing on streaming platforms on 24 December for the first time.
The band made an appearance on iTunes in 2010, but remain absent from Spotify, Rhapsody, Tidal, Deezer and Slacker. Whilst the representatives of the streaming services have not made an official comment regarding the matter, Billboard has reported knowledge of negotilations.
A Spotify representative said that he "would not comment on that”, when asked about the rumour but there have at least been strong indications that Beatles fans will be treated to ‘Hey Jude’ on Christmas Eve.
Despite being the most famous group in the world, The Beatles took a slow approach to engaging with music technology. It took Day Trippers 6 years to appear on iTunes, but once they did, they sold 2 million songs in the first week. It also took them 22 years to remaster their work, after releasing their music on CD in 1987.
If the 'Paperback Writers' do join the streaming revolution, they will be joining at a time when streaming begins to overtake downloads in terms of revenue, although the group hardly need the exposure.
