David Bowie's body has reportedly been cremated in New York with no family or friends present, in line with his wishes.
The musician died on Sunday (10 January), following an 18-month battle with cancer which he had kept secret from the public. His death came just days after the release of his new album Blackstar, released to coincide with his 69th birthday.
According to The Daily Mirror, Bowie - who always maintained a deeply private lifestyle - was privately cremated in New York, with no funeral service. He reportedly told his loved ones he wanted to "go without any fuss", and expressed a wish for no funeral service or public memorial.
He may have had what is known as a "direct cremation," which is described on the New York State's health department website as "the disposition of human remains by cremation without a formal viewing, visitation or ceremony."
Bowie fans marked the singer's death in their own way on Monday. Thousands gathered in Bowie's birth place of Brixton for a street party, during which they orchestrated mass singalongs of his best loved hits.
