Eagles Of Death Metal returned to Paris last night (16 February) to perform for survivors of last year's terror attacks that left 89 attendees dead.
The band were performing at the Paris Bataclan back in November, when Islamic extremists burst in with guns, killing nearly 90 people and injuring many more. While the band themselves were unharmed, the incident - as they explained in an interview with Vice - was a harrowing one.
Over the weekend, they played their first live show since the attacks, in Stockholm. Last night they returned to Paris for an emotional performance to survivors at the Olympia. Josh Homme, who rarely performs live with the band and wasn't there during the attacks, showed up to perform in solidarity.
When asked last year whether they planned to reschedule their European tour, Homme said, "We don't really have a choice. Not only for ourselves and our fans, not only for Nick Alexander [the band's merch manager, who was killed], not only because this is our way of life … it’s the human condition."
The band didn't speak much during their Paris show, but frontman Jesse Hughes did tell the crowd, "Bonsoir Paris, we're ready for this," before later adding, "Peace, love and rock 'n roll!"
Meanwhile, Hughes recently sparked controversy when he reaffirmed his pro-gun stance, saying, "It just seems like God made men and women, and that night guns made them equal[...] Until nobody has guns, everybody has to have them." We recommend he check out these statistics, which show the correlation between gun availability and homicide rates.
