In an ever-growing list of collaborations that could have been, it has emerged that David Bowie also turned down the chance to work with Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl.
Since his death, news has emerged that not only did Bowie reject a collaboration with Red Hot Chili Peppers, but also Coldplay - bluntly telling them 'it's not a very good song'.
Now, Dave Grohl joins the ranks of Bowie rejects. In a new video in which Grohl and Foos' bandmate Pat Smear take a tour of some of The Thin White Duke's favourite Los Angeles haunts, he remembers playing with Bowie at his epic 50th birthday show at Madison Square Garden, and later asking to work together.
"We played at his 50th birthday party at Madison Square Garden and that was the last time I saw him, so that was in 1997?" said Grohl.
"About two years ago, I got approached by this movie to do a song for the movie, so I thought, 'Maybe I'll have someone else sing, I'll do the music and then have another vocalist.' And then I thought, "Maybe I'll ask and see if David would want to do it.' So the next day I get an email and it says, 'David, I watched the movie and I got to be honest, it's not my thing.' He said, 'I'm not made for these times.'"
Grohl replied to thank Bowie for his time and consideration, before he curtly replied: "Alright, now that's settled then, fuck off."
He remains uncertain as to whether he was joking or not, but we miss Bowie's humour all the more.
Meanwhile, Glastonbury have announced their plans to honour and remember David Bowie at the festival this year.
Lady Gaga also paid tribute to David Bowie at the Grammys this week, inviting the scorn of his son who slammed it as 'mentally confused'. Nile Rodgers then spoke out to defend the performance.
