The Libertines’ comeback looks to be a sustained one. They have started work on the follow up to Anthems For Doomed Youth already.
Carl Barat and John Hassall spoke to NME at the NME Awards bash in Brixton Academy, and said they had new material and they’re working out a record deal. "We're just negotiating a new deal with Virgin at the moment [for] the new album," Hassall said on the red carpet. "So it's all looking good."
Barat added: "We've not really stopped writing. [We've got] bags of music".
Barat also said that the band have "had the best year of our lives" over the past twelve months. "It's been a right blessing. It's really exciting. It's just like we're kids again really."
Barat and Hassall's comments will come as welcome news to fans, who until now have not had this much indication that the band would stay together for another record. By the look of it it’s just the start of an exciting new era for the band.
Meanwhile, Pete Doherty is reportedly set to release a new solo album at some point in 2016. It’s a follow up to his stunning debut solo album, Grace/Wastelands. The current working title is Flags Of The Old Regime.
