Sam Smith took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for his James Bond theme song 'Writing's On The Wall' last night, dedicating his win to the LGBT community in his speech. See his performance below.
Smith was in attendance at LA's Doly Theatre, when he picked up the award with co-writer Jimmy Napes - beating off competition from The Weeknd and Lady Gaga.
"I read an article that said no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar, and if this is the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world," said Smith on stage. "I stand here tonight as a proud gay man and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day."
This comes after fellow Oscars performer Dave Grohl honoured ANOHNI, who slammed the Oscars for their anti-LGBT stance after not inviting her to perform due to her 'inadequacy as a trans person'.
