Iggy Azalea thinks Beyonce's use of 'Becky' is racist

'Don't call white women 'becky' don't call black women 'sha nay nay''

There’s a lyric on Beyonce’s new album, Lemonade, that has prompted a lot of conversation - and, it seems, has irked Iggy Azalea.

On ‘Sorry’, which addresses husband Jay Z’s alleged infidelity, Beyonce sings, “He only want me when I’m not there / He better call Becky with the good hair.”

Though fashion designer Rachel Roy quickly took to Instagram to hint that she was the ‘Becky’ in question, it’s also considered by some to be a general term for white women. So when a fan of Iggy Azalea called her Becky, she was having none of it.

This isn’t the first time Iggy Azalea has shown a less than nuanced understanding of racism. When Azealia Banks broke down while discussing the prominent appropriation of black culture in America - saying, “It says to black kids, 'you don’t have shit, you don’t own shit, not even the shit you created for yourself’” - Azalea responded, "There are many black artists succeeding in all genres. The reason you haven't is because of your piss poor attitude. Your inability to be responsible for your own mistakes, bullying others, the inability to be humble or have self control. It's YOU!”
