Björk has shared an understated announcement regarding her tenth studio album, which is to be released ‘very soon’.

The iconic Icelander shared a photo on her social media channels with a handwritten note, reading: “I am excited to share with you that my new album is coming out very soon. Warmthness, Björk.”

She also posted a link to pre-order page, which reveals that the record will be available on vinyl and CD. The specific release date is yet to be confirmed, while the album cover is currently completely blank.

The shop says that more details are to be announced soon.

The album will be the musician’s tenth, following on from 2015’s acclaimed Vulnicura, the singer’s most deeply personal record to date, which dealt with the healing process following the end of her romantic relationship with American artist Matthew Barney.

It’s not the first time Björk has used letters on social media as a direct form of communication. Addressing the fact that the more personal album Vulnicura received much more conventional critical praise than its predecessor, the conceptual Biophilia which explored links between nature and technology, she said:

"Where I shared a heartbreak, I got full acceptance from the media." Female artists "are allowed to be singer songwriters singing about their boyfriends...as if our only lingo is emo, but Björk now believes that the change is in the air that will lead to "the right to variety for all the girls out there."

She also addressed negative reviews after her headline DJ set at Houston's Day for Night festival. Addressing "little miss media", Björk said: "Some media could not get their head around that I was not "performing" and "hiding" behind desks. And my male counterparts not. I think this is sexism".
