Plus Aretha Franklin too...

Hackney electro/indie quartet Infadels release their debut album ‘We Are Not The Infadels’ to an audience that may not have the patience for such a time demanding release. Due to a scene where quick chart toppers and dance floor fillers reign, its hard to see Infadels making a dent in the somewhat elitist landscape that is electro/indie, which is a shame as these lads could seriously be onto something.

Imagine if the Talking Heads, The Rapture and Gomez all had a baby together, and you’ll have a fair idea what these guys sound like. Opener track ‘Love Like Semtex’ is so cool that you can’t not dance to it, it’s funky guitars, handclaps and pummelling bass line is sure to get even the most hardened rock n’ roll fans moving, but this happy go lucky style of dance is soon pushed aside and the real direction of the Infadels is apparent. It’s in the finer moments of tracks like ‘Topboy’ and the beautiful ‘Girl That Speaks No words’ that this band really take the listener to somewhere special, as their enormous soundscapes and sonic brilliance really shine through. It’s not a concept album, but the potential of this band is clear as day, as instrumental track ‘Give Yourself To Me’ and the fantastically epic ‘Stories From The Bar’ reek of a band destined to do great things as these are tunes that are surely going to be adored by fans of decent music everywhere. Controlling the flow of the album via four main points i.e. ‘Love Like Semtex’, ‘Girl That Speaks No Words’, Give Yourself To Me’ and finally ‘Stories From The Bar’, enable the band to showcase all their different directions and musical opinions, as just when it seems to get a little too much, these said songs will be there to make sure that the audience is still listening. Sure you have your filler songs like ‘Jagger 67’ and ‘Reality TV’ but even these aren’t that bad, as great musicianship is consistent throughout.

Overall ‘Infadels’ have released an album that will definitely turn some heads and tap some feet. They have bravely unleashed an album that takes time to sit properly with the listener but is soon accepted into your top 20, and made their mark as a band to look out for.
