Gnarls Barkley is a collaboration between DJ Danger Mouse and soul singer Cee-lo Green. DJ Dangermouse first came the forefront with his ‘Grey Album’ where he mixed Jay-Z’s ‘Black Album’ with the Beatles ‘White Album’. Before then he worked with rapper Gemini on ‘Ghetto Pop Life’. More recently he has worked with Gorrillaz. He met Cee-lo working on a remix of his 26 Inches EP and Gnarls Barkley was born.
Cee-lo Green is a member of Dungeon Fam, a southern collective which contains members of the Goodie Mob, Big Boi and Andre 3000 of Outkast. He has released two solo albums ‘Cee-lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections’ and ‘Cee-lo Green Is The Soul Machine’. He worked with rapper Timbaaland before joining forces with Dangermouse to make their mega hit ‘Crazy’ – a track which stayed at number one for nine weeks in the UK and the first song to reach the UK number one slot through download sales alone. Their album ‘St Elsewhere’ on Waxploitation Records also reached number one in the UK. They appeared at Big Day Out Festival dressed as the lion and the tin man from Wizard of Oz, so they definitely have a sense of humour.
Gnarls Barkley have a new single ‘Smiling Faces’ in the pipeline and will spend much of 2006 on a massive worldwide festival tour.
