More The View
The View’s rise to the top of the music charts started almost as soon as they left their Dundee secondary school. The then 16 year olds, Kyle Faulkner (Vocals, Guitar), Pete Reilly (Guitar), Kieran Webster (Bass) and Steve Morrison (Drums) rehearsed and performed in the back of a Dundee pub called The Bayview (from which they took their name).
After gaining a strong local reputation (which has continued to grow almost as vehemently as them) the band caught the eye of Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty when Webster handed Doherty a copy of their T-Pot Demos prior to a gig. Doherty was impressed and the band was invited to join Babyshambles on tour in January 2006. Their first national venture caught the eye of James Endeacott, whose previous signings include The Libertines, and they were signed to his own 1965 Records.
The success of their ramshackle appearances with Babyshambles meant there wasn’t a venue The View weren’t booked to play at for the rest of 2006. Along with two headlining tours in 2006, the band made two infamous festival appearances at the BBC’s One Big Weekend and T in the Park which helped increase their following. They also joined Primal Scream on their nationwide tour at the end of 2006.
2006 also saw the release of their debut single, ‘Wasted Little DJ’s,’ which entered the charts at number 15, as did its follow-up, ‘Superstar Tradesman’ in October. Their relentless success throughout 2006 meant they were tipped as one of ‘the’ bands for 2007. After a their third single, ‘Same Jeans’ entered the charts at number three in January 2007, their debut album, ‘Hats Off To The Buskers,’ which was produced by Owen Morris (Oasis), entered the charts at number one and received wide-spread critical acclaim.
Their fans chant of, “The View, The View, The View are on fire!” has never seemed so poignant.
