More Seth Lakeman Vocals/Fiddle/Guitar: Seth Lakeman
Seth Lakeman was part of a musical family, born in Dartmoor,Devon he began playing music with his brothers Sean and Sam from an early age. The three brothers performed as a backing band for Kathryn Roberts and Kate Rushby and released an album ‘Three Piece Suite’.
They signed a record deal with Times Warner in 1995 calling themselves Equation and went onto release three albums ‘Return To Me’, ‘Hazy Daze’ and ‘Lucky Few’.
Seth left the band in 2001 to go solo, combining his vocal talents with fiddle and guitar playing. He went on to win awards at Radio 2s folk awards, and continued to collaborate with his brother and extended family.
In 2002 he released his first solo album ‘Punch Bowl’, but it was second album ‘Kitty Jay’ that brought him firmly into the public arena, earning him a Mercury Music Prize nomination. Telling the story of Dartmoor historical spot Jay’s Grave, where orphan girl Kitty Jay hanged herself after being raped by a local man. His folk songs are full of tales of folklore and have mystic ghostly elements to them.
The Mercury nomination was followed by a sell out tour and support slots for folk giants The Levellers. In 2006 he released a new album ‘Freedom Fields’ and is continuing to tour the country with his unique brand of story telling folk.
