More System of a Down System of a Down has been described as hardcore metal flavoured with Armenian folklore, hip hop, punk and gorgeous, harmony-laden melodies. The Los Angeles quartet System of a Down became well known for their self titled debut (produced by Rick Rubin), with songs like "Suite Pee" and "KNOW".
Tankian, Malakian and Odadjian first played together in 1993 as Soil, renaming themselves System Of A Down, from a poem by Malakian, in 1995. They recruited dummer John Dolmayan and started touring Southern California with their intense live act. Rick Rubin, in September 1997, made the band the first new act on his American Recordings label after seeing them play at Hollywood's Viper Room. In August of 2001, System of a Down emerged with their second album, “Toxicity.” The first single, “Chop Suey”, received heavy radio play, as did the title track and “Aerials.” They put out “Steal this Album” in 2002.
