The birth of New York group The A.M is in part due to tragic death of the late Jeff Buckley, who died in 1997 aged 30. Self taught Michael and Parker were both band mates of the late Mr Buckley and began writing together shortly after his death. Black Beetle was the name given to their first effort after Jeff’s departure, the line up included Joan Wasser, Buckley’s girlfriend, who later left to pursue a career as a solo artist. In September 2002, and this time with the inclusion of Andrew Wyatt the A.M was born.
The debut album by the New Yorkers has many British influences, notably T. Rex and David Bowie who seem to have provided much of the inspiration for their work. Their love of all things British heavily was in part one of the main reasons they decided to sign to Manchester based label Storm Music.
