My Chemical Romance – ‘Famous Last Words’ (Reprise) Released 22/01/07
Every generation has a voice. In the 1960s it was the Beatles. The 70s saw glam rock and T-Rex take over. The Spice Girls and Oasis charged through the 90s. And now My Chemical Romance is the very vocal, and rather emo, voice of our teenage generation. With songs about suicide and depression MCR touch on subjects that most previous teenybopper bands failed to recognise – the only one that springs to mind is Nirvana, but they didn’t do it with positive gusto a la MCR. Oh no. These guys listen to the kids and write music for the kids. So, if you’re a teenage Romance lover count yourselves lucky that this decade’s heroes are singing about reality rather than fantasy. Ace stuff.
