Thirty years ago, four Brummies came together to form a band described as 'the basis of rock'. Since then, the band members of Black Sabbath have swapped so much that its little wonder Ozzy Osbourne is a swearing, shaky mess.

Formed in 1967 under their first name, Earth, guitarist Iommi had an accident in a sheet metal factory. The tips of his fingers were sliced off and he saved his career by using plastic finger tips.

Eventually, he was pushed too far by Osbourne’s cocaine habit and fired him from the band in 1979. The following albums were received with mixed opinions and websites created recently by die hard fans either loathe or love the post- Ozzy era.

He returned to Black Sabbath to appear on the official 1998 album, ‘Reunion’. The daddies rocked out as the headlining act of ‘Ozzfest’ in 2001. Iommi spent most of 2004 working on solo projects, yet there is speculation of an upcoming album for 2005.
