The Beatles Almost Recorded 'Revolver' in America
The Beatles originally intended to record their seminal 1966 album ‘Revolver’ in America, rather than the United Kingdom, it’s been revealed.
The band were due to fly out to record at Mecca Stax studios in Memphis, Tennessee in April 1966, but cancelled the trip amid security concerns.
The album, which is heralded as one of music’s greatest, was eventually recorded at Abbey Road studios in London.
Deanie Parker, the former publicist for Mecca Stax, revealed that the band had a two week session booked at the studio.
"I was seeing dollar signs. I talked to (Stax founder) Jim Stewart and said, 'If The Beatles do come, will you give me permission to take the carpet up, cut it into squares and sell it?'" he told Mojo.
It’s also claimed that Elvis Presley had offered the band accommodation during their stay.
