More The Wedding Present Cult indie types The Wedding Present have announced details of a new album and brief UK tour.
David Gedge and co.’s record, ‘El Rey’, was recorded with the legendary Steve Albini in Chicago and will hit the shelves on May 26 on CD and vinyl formats.
Frontman Gedge explains that the record is partially influenced by his experience of living in Los Angeles, telling Mojo: “I’ve been living in West Hollywood for the last year or so, and while I’m not going to claim that this is my ‘L.A.’ album, there are some references. I suppose the themes are lust, jealousy, betrayal, regret, obsession, super-heros… the usual.
“We chose to record with Steve this time because the new songs were sounding very guitary and quite dark. It’s been good. As you’d imagine, really; Albini knows his stuff”.
The record is the follow-up to 2004’s acclaimed ‘Take Fountain’, which was their first album after an eight year hiatus.
