The group began playing in '98, performing on many mod and garage bills in New York city. The group released 2 singles on small labels, and self-released another single and an ep. The group's appearance at Cavestomp '99 gained the band a lot of attention, and the group went on to release a single on Telstar records. In September of 2000, the Mooney Suzuki's debut full length "People Get Ready" was released on Estrus records. Followed by Electric Sweat  in 2002 and Alive and Amplified in 2004. They have now signed to V2 and are in the midsts of recording a new album.
